Fallacy: It’s more efficient to turn your air conditioner off when you’re not at home than to turn the temperature up.
Fact: When the summer temperatures hit, it can climb well into the high 80s or low 90s inside of a home that is not being cooled by an air conditioner. The most energy efficient solution is to turn your programmable thermostat to 80 to 83 degrees during the hours you’ll be away.
Fallacy: Opening registers in every room is more efficient in terms of air circulation.
Fact: Closing doors and vents in unused rooms is the most efficient way to run your air conditioner. By its design, an air conditioner will blow cold air where there is heat. By closing unused rooms off, you can more efficient cool the areas that you are using.
Fallacy: To cool off your house, you should turn the thermostat 5 to 10 degrees below the desired temperature until it is cool.
Fact: Lowering the temperature on your thermostat below your desired temperature does not enable your air conditioner to work any faster. It just extends the amount of time that your air conditioner is working.
Fallacy:
If your air conditioner works ok now, it doesn’t need a tune up.
Fact:
A seasonal maintenance check on your system is the best way to prevent any problem from occurring. You don’t want to wait until a problem arises to make that call.
